CloverPit is yet another attempt at Balatro-ifying another form of gambling, this time slots instead of video poker. It… isn’t good… which is somewhat surprising considering that arguably the game that really kicked this all off was Luck be a Landlord, which in part directly inspired Balatro, and that was also slots.

I got it via Game Pass, played a couple runs, and successfully hit the first “big” goal of 12k coins to get your first “big” unlock. In these couple runs, there just doesn’t seem to be that much going on here. Pay coins for pulls. Pull to win coins. Get “tickets” for completing a set of pulls. Spend tickets to buy charms that modify your game. You have a set number of attempts to meet a coin target, or you die and start over. Meet enough deadlines and “escape”.

From what I played, there just really isn’t much to do. Strategy-wise, you can use charms and other things to focus on and juice the occurrence rates and values of certain symbols. Like you make treasure chests more likely to spawn, worth more, and make them more likely to be “gold” to buff them further. But then the actual gameplay is just pull the handle and hope for the best. Oh you had all the things you needed and you still got a bunch of garbage? Too bad start over.

There’s stuff to unlock, various criteria will add new charms to the pool, and hitting certain milestones will unlock the ability to “bank” a charm by stuffing it in a filing cabinet, but that really seems like it. Is there more depth? I don’t know, I won’t be finding out, it isn’t engaging, and doesn’t appeal to me. Not Recommended.
